West Bromich came up against a stubborn Cardiff City side, missing many key players but just managed to sneak all three points after a fantastic strike from super-sub Nathan Ellington.

Darcy Blake and Jason Byrne both made their first league starts and Cardiff matched the home side in a lively opening with chances for both sides. Former Cardiff target Robert Koren was instrumental for the Baggies and ex-Bluebird Jason Koumas showed some nice touches.

West Brom eventually took the lead and the goal came just slightly against the run of play. Nathan Ellington, who had only just replaced Kevin Phillips, picked up the ball in midfield and hit a thunderous drive into the top corner from fully 25 yards.

Cardiff had their own chances but missed the cutting edge of Chopra up front. The Bluebirds held their own all game and can be rightly proud of their performance but crucially lost the game against close promotion rivals WBA.

The game breaks Cardiff’s 5 match unbeaten streak and they will need to pick themselves up and get back to winning ways. Chopra, Loovens, Walton and Scimeca could all come into contention.
