James Chambers has now completed his loan spell with Cardiff City and returned to Watford. Chambers loaned on a short term loan as cover for the injured Kevin McNaughton but was also at Ninian Park and available to cover Kerrea Gilberts 3 match ban imposed after a sending off for violent conduct against Norwich.

Arsenal loanee Gilbert has now been ruled out for an initial 6 week period but will most likely require longer on the sidelines as he recovers from a shoulder injury. Dave Jones moved swiftly to extend Chambers` loan period at Cardiff City but that request has now been turned down by Watford.

Chambers started all 7 games during his loan spell and looked defensively sound and whilst he appeared a little conservative in not wanting to make mistakes – he performed admirably and did an excellent job for the Bluebirds both at left and right full-back positions. The player himself was hopeful of staying on at Ninian Park but Watford were reluctant to extend the deal and the player returned to Vicarage Road.

Chambers` departure leaves somewhat of a defensive headache for Dave Jones with Chris Barker on loan to Colchester and just Kevin McNaughton as the one established full back. Joe Ledley is likely to fill the left-back position for Friday`s clash with QPR with McNaughton switching sides to the right. Highly rated youngsters Joe Jacobson (left back) or Chris Gunter (right-back) are alternatives for Jones but neither has much first team experience.

Dave Jones is currently working on bringing in another defender on loan but may not have time before the QPR game.
