Watford Fan’s View on Cardiff Clash

Vital Cardiff City speaks to a knowledgable Watford FC fan ahead of the midweek clash.

Are you happy with your departures / signings ?

Very much so. Poom in goal has bags of inexperience and is a class shot stopper but has big boots to fill after the departure of Ben Foster, whilst winger Jobi McAnuff knows this division inside out (though his £1.75m price tag has in the past few games hindered his performance slightly). Cantre Back Matt Jackson was a strange buy on a free from Wigan and has yet to feature. And then of course there is Nathan Ellington – at £4m he is pricey but a lot of fans reckon Sir Aidy can get teh best out of him and a partnership with King could be deadly…

Aspirations for this season?

Top 6 is a must if the club are serious about long term plans to establish themselves in the top flight and after the start we have had now the expectations of the fans are even higher. Wins against Sheff Utd, Southampton, Wolves and Ipswich mean we have faced some decent promotion contenders and come away with the points… All bodes well but here at VitalWatford Towers, we knows its a marathon not a sprint!

Watford player to watch, how will they hurt us?

Marlon King is an obvious choice as his movement, power and deceptive speed make him a constant threat but for me, Lee Williamson is a danger man in the middle of the park. The guy was deemed a ‘make weight’ in the signing of Hoskins from Rotherham but has already proved himself in the engine room with a couple of commanding games and has hit a match winning strike at home to Sheff Utd. You have got to watch out for Shittu and DeMerit at set pieces as well – both guys are great in the area and love to get forward from centreback.

If you could have one Cardiff player on a free, who and why?

The VitalWatford boys like the look of Paul Parry and Joe Ledley (not in that way we’d like to point out). Sir Aidy has built a decent squad with some real strength in depth but lack quality cover in the middle of the park. Parry looks to have great composure about him and can pop up in the hole to score some important goals whilst, from what we have seen, Ledley has pace to burn and can turn a game with a little bit of creativity. We’re not surprised he has a handful of International caps to his name for Wales.

Prediction for the game?

It’s not like the VitalWatford boys to be sat on the fence but this one’s a hard one to call. JFH has a nasty habit of scoring against us and if fit is bound to be a threat but 1-1 would be a good result. Dr Watford just doesn’t see us taking all 3 points and would be surprised if it wasn’t tight all over the park. Hornets to take the lead, Bluebirds to equalise late on.

Many thanks to Dr Watford over at Vital Watford for his views.
