The Cardiff season ended on a high with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest, but we did end the game with 10 men in the end after David Marshall was shown a red card so, assuming he’s still here next season, he’ll miss the opening three Bluebird games as a result.

By winning at the City Ground we also secured a top half finish, ending what’s been a disappointing season back in the Championship in 11th place, with Russell Slade knowing that improvement is a must next season.

Going into the game Joe Ralls was a fitness doubt but having past a fitness test to feature he scored early on as he followed up to volley in a blocked Joe Mason effort to give us a flying start, which got even better as Eoin Doyle continued to find his feet, which was a struggle when we first arrived from Chesterfield in January, to score his latest goal for us just ten minutes later from a Matthew Kennedy cross to leave us in control.

Nottingham Forest had threatened to get back into the game but didn’t manage this with Marshall then being sent off for putting his head into the direction of Jamaal Lascelles, which we know is a no no these days!

Simon Moore was turned to and our substitute goalkeeper saved to deny Dexter Blackstock a goal and we also had the returning Ben Turner to thank as he cleared a Michael Mancienne effort off the line.

A consolation goal came in the end when Jamie Paterson’s cross was converted by Blackstock but we saw out the remaining minutes to end with back to back wins, meaning we had managed this for the first time this year!
