Time For Cardiff City Changes Mr Jones !

It may seem a little excessive, and a knee-jerk reaction for Cardiff City fans to demand changes after just 2 defeats this season. However, it is the manner of our play more than results which necessite alterations – changes our management seem incapable of considering let alone implementing.


I simply dont think we can persevere carrying certain members of the team at present. Never mind blaming Darren Purse – his place is one of 5 which should be sevure on current form. Purse, Johnson, McNaughton, Ledley and McCormack are all shoe-ins. Aside from that, McPhail, Bothroyd and Rae are all likely starters for tonights game.


I don’t think we can afford both Parry and Whittingham in midfield. On Saturday, neither contributed significantly, nor did they provide options for team-mates. Both are classy players and can be extremely dangerous, but right now they are not and that means changes.


Mark Kennedy on the left, Comminges into right midfield are the best options for a re-shuffle with Dave Jones eternally reluctant to use Darcy Blake anywhere other than an emergency full-back.


However, a change from the rigid 4-4-2 seems the best option for me. Ross McCormack looked far more dangerous on the right of a 3 man attack, while Parry is unsure whether wing or strikers roles suit him better. Whilst Bothroyd is not a target man, he can hold the ball up well and could bring others into the game.

That would allow a McPhail, Rae, Ledley combination in central midfield – and perhaps THAT would prevent us being outmuscled in the centre game after game. Every loose ball on Saturday was collected by Lee Carsley, who did little else but feed Larsson – but it was hugely effective.


My starting XI tonight:

Heaton, McNaughton, Commingues, Purse, Johnson, Ledley, McPhail, Rae, Parry, McCormack, Bothroyd.


In a fluid 4-5-1 defending, 4-3-3 attacking formation and one I think our squad is better suited to!
