TG, Tan and Malaysian eyes on Cardiff City

Cardiff City travel to Wembley for the pinnacle of 2009/10 season and a chance to join England’s elite in the Premiership. The showcase Championship play-off final boasts a massive prize for the winner and attracts attention from all round the globe.

For Cardiff City, there is another factor to this final with significant attention from the Far East given our new links and investment from Malaysia.

Dato Chan Tien Ghee has invested £2m already to help see the club through difficult financial times and has promised another £4m input due to be approved at the forthcoming EGM. He travels to London for Starday’s play-off final and will be bringing with him a fellow businessman, the well known and respected Vincent Tan who is also backing TG’s investment. Tan has not watched the Bluebirds in action before but has been impressed by the feedback of both TG and Tan’s son – who attended the semi-final second leg.

Interest in the Bluebirds has already soared in Malaysia, and the Cardiff City supporters have taken to the clubs new director with passion. Not only has TG and his partenrs helped us through an incredibly difficult time, they have conducted themselves with the highest order of dignity – a welcome relief after the past Chairmen we’ve had.

The Bluebirds and Malaysian flags will be our in force again on Saturday, and with Asian eyes also following the game – we may yet attract more support, financial and otherwise from the lucrative far east market. With a pre-season trip to Malaysia already in planning, our support base is already growing – even before a potential promotion to the Premiership.
