Stoke City yesterday completed the signing of Matty Etherington from West Ham United to bolster their midfield options – a move notable to Cardiff fans as Etherington is a left-sided wide player.

Stoke City have shown prolonged interest in Cardiff City star Joe Ledley, and had a £6m bid knocked backed in the summer – a move that did interest Ledley at the time. It was thought that Tony Pulis was keen to pursue Ledley again in this transfer window but the acquisition of left winger Etherington seeminglt puts an end to that speculation.

A number of other clubs have shown interst in Joe, but Stoke City have been one of the most aggressive suitors and if they have dropped out of the race – it can only be good news for fans hoping to keep hold of one of our top players and brightest stars.

Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Wigan Athletic and Fulham are amongst the other clubs to have lodged initial interest although Ledley himself remains content for the moment and is relishing the promotion chase and captaincy role he has picked up.
