Cardiff City have rejected a miserly offer, thought to be £1m, for the serfvies of the Championship’s leading scorer last season and the Bluebirds have indicated they are doing everything possible to tie Peter Whittingham down to a new deal.

Nottingham Forest are yet to make an impression in the transfer window during the close season and were no doubt hoping to capitalise on our well documented financial troubles, and the fact that Whittingham is in the final year of his contract.

However, Whitts is an important player for us and midfielders able to score 20+ goals per season (Gerrard, Lampard etc)are abviously a valuable and rare commodity. Forest have held a longstanding interest in the cultured winger and join fellow rivals Burnley in tabling an official approach for the former Aston Villa man.

Cardiff City Chief Executive confirmed a bid had been received, and rebuffed:

“We rejected the bid from Nottingham Forest as we want to keep hold of Whittingham.”

“We are continuing negotiations with Peter over a new contract here at Cardiff City.”

Thankfully, we are not being strongarmed into selling off prized assets on the cheap. Realistically, Cardiff City cannot afford to overlook serious bids, but there must be doubts as to whether the Reds are serious about Whitts since a bid of £1m seems far too low for a player of his quality, after last season’s exploits.

A bid of £2.5m could be sufficient to interest the Bluebirds, but with Forest’s already talented squad, and two £1m bids made for Whittingham and Darren Pratley of Swansea City – they may not have the cash to meet our valuation.

2.5M you have got to be kidding me, i think we should get at least 4m for this player. he scores 20+ goals a season from midfield,
    he creates loads of goals.
and he’s only in his mid twenties i mean come on forest.

Maybe if your club was a bit more careful with their money you wouldn’t owe money to the taxman.

I think we’d hold out for £4m if we were loaded – but given we paid only £300k, he’s only had 1 good season and is out of contract in a year – £2.5m seems a fair price all round to me….

3m then. hay bluebirdshroom did you here that we have signed
    koumas on loan.

yep – story and poll on from tomorrow morning – hopefully he can re-find his form, certainly not a bad signing !
