Smith unsure over Cardiff loan

Manchester United striker Alan Smith is considering a loan move to Championship leaders Cardiff City to regain match fitness but is reluctant to leave and would prefer to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place.

Cardiff contacted Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday and the revered manager agreed to the deal and said in an interview with Sky Sports News:

‘Due to the fact we are no longer in the League Cup, I thought a short-term loan would be ideal for him to get him games.

‘I think he’s uncertain about what to do, he’s not sure whether to take it or not.
‘It’s an option to play games, that was merely the idea from our part.’

Alan Smith’s agent however has indicated Smith’s preference to stay despite his manager’s advice and reluctance to play Smith in competitive games.

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has now expressed a desire to bring the Elland Road hero back to Leeds where he was idolised by all Leeds fans prior to his move away when several sections turned violently against him. Smith may see this as an oppurtunity to help his hometown club and make amends for his ‘jumping ship’ as Leeds’ bubble burst.

Leeds are currently languishing in the Championship relegation zone and Smith’s aggressive style would perfectly suit Dennis Wise’s vision and passion whilst possibly providing the impetus to kickstart Leeds woeful season so far.
