Manager Russell Slade has said that the dressing room relishing the big Championship games, and Derby County with their spending certainly falls into that category.
Speaking to the Official Site in his pre game press conference, Slade is quoted as saying firstly that he couldn’t have been more delighted to see Joe Ralls extend his deal with us.
‘Joe has made great strides and we`re really pleased with the progress he`s made on the pitch. He`s one of our young players who is maturing quickly, he`s always wanted to stay and is enjoying his football here at Cardiff City. I still think there`s so much more to come from Joe because he`s still at a great age and is a fantastic kid.’
Moving on to Derby this weekend, and with half an eye already on the next test which is Burnley, Slade described them as ‘two real test’ for us in the season, given how both have began their own campaigns given their own promotion hopes this year, but these sides should bring the best out of the players – and if we perform how he knows we can – he knows we are more than capable of giving them a game and coming away with a maximum return of points which would obviously build nicely on the two nil victory over Reading in our last match.
‘We`ve got two real tests now against Derby County and Burnley – but playing against teams that have started the season well can bring out the best in us. The important thing now is to maintain our momentum to continue being right in the hunt for promotion.’
In other brief news, 23 year old goalkeeper Ben Wilson has extended his loan spell out with League Two side Wimbledon, and he will remain with them until January 3.
In his time at Kingsmeadow so far, he has made four league appearances, keeping two clean sheets.
