Manager Russell Slade was delighted to see Cardiff come out the right side of a five goal thriller against Bolton Wanderers yesterday.

Having taken the lead twice through Tony Watt and Scott Malone, Bolton pegged us back on each occasion before Anthony Pilkington added the late third ten minutes from full time to give Cardiff a well deserved win and three points, and in quotes carried by Wales Online from his post game press interviews, Slade was delighted with the clinical edge we showed in front of goal – even if some of the defending on the day was a bit sloppy – but he knew the side still hadn’t hit top gear in his mind and he called for them to cement ourselves in the Play Off spots by getting on a good run over the festive December fixtures.

It was Cardiff’s first win on the road since the August victory over Nottingham Forest.

‘It might only be temporary we are in the top six, but we are close and we are looking for that run of games now. We need to back this up, we need to try to get back to back wins and that might give us the momentum moving forward. We`ll watch Sheffield Wednesday against Derby with great interest and then we will look forward to meeting them on Saturday. We are going to need to be strong again. We`ve not hit top gear enough this season and there is room for improvement for sure. This is a big period for us going towards Christmas, if we can pick up some points now after a difficult period, it will give us the chance to hold onto one of those play-off spots.’

Slade went on to say that portions of our game play had really impressed him on the day, but that brings him back to the defensive showing that he was less pleased with.

‘We got ourselves in a great situation and scored a great first goal, 15 passes and well finished by Tony, but to be fair to Bolton they never laid down and kept fighting back. But we plated some good attacking football. Defensively there were concerns, their second one was frustrating. It was a long punt we did not deal with. It was messy. You have to do the basics right. At times the level of performance we want was there though. We moved the ball around well at times and we looked a good side. It`s all about consistency, with and without the ball. We need to find it. We are doing it for spells, but we have to be consistent. at times we are good, at times we are poor. It`s about sorting it out. But we had good quality and good energy. We looked a threat. It`s nice to score a few goals from open play. That should give us confidence moving forward, It`s been a while since we`ve won away from home and is important we came here looking to take all three points back with us and that is exactly what we`ve done.’
