Manager Russell Slade has passed comment on the players we have had out on loan this season, and given an indication on whether they will remain with us.
In an interview with Wales Online following news that Kevin McNaughton, Danny Gabbidon and Nicky Maynard have already been released, he explained.
Adam Le Fondre has already been covered.
So beginning with our business decisions on Kenwyne Jones and Matt Connolly who moved to Bournemouth and Watford respectively.
‘They went out on loan for business reasons – and it proved good business in the end. Bournemouth and Watford were promoted and we earned a bonus. Financially it was very good for Cardiff City and the two played their part for the clubs they went to.’
Jones played six times for Bournemouth scoring once, and Connolly played six times also, scoring once.
‘Kenwyne and Matt are happy to be Cardiff City players next season. That is not an issue. If things change we will let people know. Kenwyne was our top scorer and scored a vital goal for Bournemouth which earned a highly important point. He also scored his goals for Cardiff this season and you have to respect that. It would be great to have the big man around again if that were the case.’
Declan John went to Barnsley and played nine times for them.
‘It`s going to be a massive time for Declan when he comes back for pre-season. He got to a stage where he desperately needed to go out on loan and he went to Barnsley. He played nine matches and we had a good chat when he came in. That experience at Barnsley will be useful for him. He faces an important pre-season. Can he stake a claim for a first team place? He will certainly be given every opportunity.’
Javi Guerra went to Malaga and Slade admits he is another one likely to move on as his transfer here just didn’t really work out.
‘He is still a Cardiff City player and has his individual fitness programme for the summer. It may be that he wants to play in Spain, but we`ll see how things work out. If we are honest Javi`s future is in Spain. He would like to find a club there. If not, we will look at that again when he comes over and maybe another loan could be sorted out.’
Kevin Theophile moved to St Etienne and reports suggest that they want him permanently and Slade confirmed that, although said nothing had yet been agreed.
‘There have been talks with St Etienne, who are interested in signing him. We will see how that works out.’
David Tutonda moved to Newport County taking in 12 games and the 19 year old scored twice.
‘We`ve watched David regularly. He has done well and has played in 12 matches for them. He is young and there are good signs.’
The gaffer confirmed that he still sees Ben Nugent (Yeovil), Tommy O`Sullivan (Port Vale), Adedeji Oshilaa (AFC Wimbledon), and Rhys Healey (Colchester) as potential players for the future so they will be coming back to us for pre season training and he’s called on all of them to come back looking to make an impact on him.
‘They are good young players who are under still under contract and will back for pre-season training. They understand it`s going to be a big season for them and they must come back intent on making an impact.’
Nugent made 29 appearances scoring once for Yeovil. O’Sullivan made five appearances. Oshilaa made 23 appearances, scoring once and Healey made 23 appearances, scoring four times.
Slade does bring the curtain down on Etien Velikonja (Lierse), Filip Kiss (Ross County) and Joe Lewis (Blackpool) though, saying that.
‘It looks unlikely any of the three, who each have one year left on their contracts, will play a part for Cardiff. They will go out on loan or join another club.’
So no great surprises really I wouldn’t have thought.
