Set Up For Eddie To Become Cardiff City Hero?

They say lightening doesn’t strike twice but this season bears a number of similarities to our last promotion season when we prospered through the play-offs to reach the Championship.

In that season we had an out of favour striker, who looked hapless at times despite having previous pedigree. Andy Campbell was useless for much of the campaign but scored a marvellous goal in extra time to defeat QPR and seal our promotion.

This time around we have Eddie Johnson, more popular than Campbell though much of Eddie’s support is tongue-in-cheek. Andy Campbell played second fiddle to Robert Earnshaw while Johnson has seen McCoprmack take the striking plaudits.

Campbell scored 4 goals from 30 appearances, Eddie has just two from his 30 but has made fewer starts than Campbell did in 2002/03.

Picture the scene: City are 1-0 down at Wednesday with 5 to go, Preston and Burnley are both winning. Eddie Johnson is thrown on in a three man attack and strikes a sublime volley from 20 yards….

We can but dream but Eddie Johnson is unlikely to reamin at Cardiff City past this season – his contribution could beat that of Andy Campbell and he will forever be revered as a cult hero. Maybe he’ll save it for the play-offs….
