Scunthorpe 3-2 Cardiff City (Report)

Cardiff City suffered a 3-2 reversal to end any remaining hopes of a play-off position. For once, defending let us down but Cardiff were lacking in all areas and deserved little in a poor game at Glanford Park.


The first half was lively but lacking in quality as Scunthorpe closed down all space and Cardiff struggled for ideas. However, moments before half time everything changed as JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK fired home from a Ledley pull-back.


Hasselbaink had another glorious chance to extend the lead just seconds into the second half but his shot was woeful and rebounded mildly off the post.


City were made to regret that miss, but they will regret the defending more as a corner was poked home by an unmarked Paul Hayes.


As Cardiff fell apart, Kevan Hurst was left alone to slot home a second.


Just as Cardiff looked lost, the rapid response arrived – the best goal of the game as Ramsey fed Ledley, who fired home left footed from outside the area.



Both sides had half-chances and Cardiff pushed hard. However, they were lacking and failed to create real problems. As City pushed everyone forward, left-back for Scunthorpe Williams surged forward and gratefully accepted Glenn Loovens’ outstretched leg. Enckelman went the wrong way but a loss was the same as a win in all reality.



Nothing less than a win would do, but to concede three such terrible goals means we simply didn;t deserve it. We didn’t have answers to Scunthope’s tactics and it was the same old story. No pace, no options to alter.


Championship football beckons for next season.
