Saints beat sorry City

5 second half goals brought a scrappy game to life, but the 3 points went to Southampton in a poor defensive display by Cardiff.
Cardiff shaded the first half and Glenn Loovens went close, his header cleared off the line by Jim Brennan after quarter of an hour. Almost immediately after the restart, Southampton took the lead when Claus Lundekvam headed in Jim Brennan’s corner for only his 3rd Southampton goal.
Cameron Jerome ended his poor scoring run with a scrambled goal soon after, but two goals from Ricardo Fuller effectively wrapped up the game for Southampton. Darren Purse scored a last minute consolation but by then it was too late. Wolves had lost but Preston extended their lead to a seemingly unassailable 8 point gap. A draw never looked like enough from this game for City and when we needed a big performance, we were lacking. With a small squad on its last legs and injuries racking up, its no wonder but Southampton are a big club with a decent squad and good manager, at least we went down fighting.

I think most City fans would have been happy with Southampton’s position this season
