Roger Johnson For Cardiff City Captain !!!

Darren Purse remains Cardiff City club captain and has been a good leader since he joined the club. However, last season saw him pushed to the sidelines to accomodate the central defensive unit of Roger Johnson and Glenn Loovens.

This meant that Dave Jones was required to select a ‘team’ captain i.e. someone to lead us on the pitch. He went for Stephen McPhail, partly due to the midfielder’s added experience and ability to control the game although with a new look and mostly young squad, choices were limited.

Now, there may be added cause to appoint a new on-field captain with Purse again expected to play a substitute role. A recent poll on this Vital Cardiff City website invited readers opinions on their choice of captain:

Who Should Be Cardiff City Captain?

Roger Johnson (70%)
Stephen McPhail (11%)
Darren Purse (6%)
Glenn Loovens (5%)
A.N. Other (4%)
Joe Ledley (3%)
Unsure (1%)

It was pretty clear from the results that fans believe Roger Johnson, commanding centre-back and former Wycome Wanderers skipper should be the one to lead the Bluebirds this season.

roger johnson was instrumental all of last season he thoroughly deserves to be captain after his performance last season. his partnership with looves was amazing and teams sturggled when the ball was in the air against them two. cant wait for this season to start now, southampton at ninian is going to be an awesome day watchin the bluebirds win 2-0.

yes okay in the air, loovens and yoshie was a good partnership, but lets not forget the job pursey did, okay, he had 1 bad season, but he still should be there. i dont think yoshie has the maturity if you have it to be captain so soon, he has had one brilliant season in the championship, but lets not forget we got older, more mature players who should be capt such as riccy scimeca
