Cardiff City Chairman Peter Ridsdale took a 68% pay cut in the previous financial year – the Bluebirds annual report states. Over the period leading up to 31st May 2008, Ridsdale was paid just a fraction of the previous year`s monies, paid in consultancy fees to his firm WH Sports.

Over that period, the club made a £1m loss, but received hefty transfer fees for the likes of Chopra and Gunter.

Ridsdale was still paid £300k+ for his services but that figure appears paltry next to other league Chairmen and the consultancy fees paid to Rudgewick in previous years for Sam Hammam`s advice. Sam drew an awful lot of money from the club whilst knowingly letting them slide perilously close to administration.

These data are almost a year old now and things have improved somewhat with record numbers of season ticket holders, further interest generated by the cup final run and the sale of Glenn Loovens to Celtic. We are on an even footing again and will be re-investing transfer fees gaied by the sale of Johnson, McCormack and Ledley – each of whom is attracting admiring glances from the Premiership.
