Please Don’t Do A Kermorgant !

Cardiff City are hoping to make it to Wembley in successive seasons and face Reading tonight in what will undoubtedly be a tense and crucial game. Last season we booked our place courtesy of a nervy performance and via the horror of a penalty shoot-out.

Thankfully, we went through, and were spared the cruelty of such a defeat. Leicester City fans were left with a long and demoralised journey home and were left to rue several moments, most notably conceding a lead at the Walkers’ Stadium, conceding early at CCS and then a penalty allowing Whittingham to level the scores. Most of all, however, was a moment of madness which affected Frenchman Yann Kermorgant.

For those who didn’t hear at the time, or had forgotten – the moment prompted Leicester City fan Dave Henson to write an excellent parody song to comemorate the miss. Anybody can miss a penalty, but Kermorgant’s mistake was to attempt a cheeky chip in one of the most important moments of the Faxes recent history – whoops!

David Marshall had seen Kermorgant try this before and was in the perfect position to paw away the tame effort, condemning Leicester to their fate.

Hopefully, Cardiff City can win tonight with out the necessity of penalties. If, however, we are doommed to another lottery shoot-out, Bluebirds players and fans will require no reminder of the consequence of applying training ground trickery to situations of the highest pressure.

Kermorgant has been sent on loan to France for this season, and is unlikely to return to Leicester City next season.
