‘Pay As You Go’ For Cardiff City Veterans

Cardiff City are known to have offered contract extensions to their two veteran strikers despite failing to set the division alight last season. Hasselbaink played regularly but looked slow and cumbersome while his goal contribution was also lacking. Robbie Fowler enjoyed a better goals to games ratio but was kept out of the side by injury.

Surely we can’t afford to keep both strikers on the books, experienced or not. It seemed a gamble last season (one that didn’t pay off) and the odds can only have lengthened this time around with a 36 year old striker likely to struggle.

We are definately in the market for two new strikers meaning that Warren Feeney and Steve Thompson seem almost certain to leave.

However, Hasselbaink and/or Fowler may yet leave. Neither needs the money but may prefer to move elsewhere in search of more regular secured football.

Fowler is the more likely to stay and would be a useful addition providing he can lay his injury problems to rest…

Why were they not on this deal originally? You were never going to get much game time out of Fowler, or game effort out of Jimmy.

i heard on the news and football talk radio, hasselbaink will NOT be offered a new contract as Dave Jones has said hes going to bring in two young fresh pacey strikers

Hasselbaink HAS been offered terms – but they are not particualrly appealing…

If you do keep them it should be on a play and performance related deal.
