Carson, who was on the stand-by list for Sven’s world cup squad, is currently third choice goalkeeper at Liverpool and was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season. Rafa Benitez is keen for Carson to get first-team experience and the player has also become frustrated by his lack of oppurtunities but with Jerzy Dudek also looking the leave Anfield, Benitez may opt to promote Carson to No. 2 ‘keeper behing first choice Jose Reina.

Cardiff are reportedly looking for at least two goalkeepers with Martyn Margetson leaving on June 30th officially and Neil Alexander attracting interest from several Scottish League clubs and Coventry City in the Championship. A season-long loan for Carson is Dave Jones’ preferred option with Gillingham player-of-the-year and Welsh International Jason Brown also being linked.

Alexander enjoyed an excellent season for the Bluebirds this term culminating in a Scottish cap and Alexander recently excelled in the Kirin Cup in Japan putting in two inspired performances. Nevertheless Dave Jones is willing to sell for an appropriate fee to continue his squad rebuilding programme.
