Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd will not face any disciplinary action following his bad challenge on Leeds forward Luciano Becchio in the Blubeirds 4-0 win on Monday.

Leeds had asked for retrospective action following the challenge, which was picked up by Sky TV cameras and replayed regularly over the following days. The FA referred the matter to the FAW, who had declined to take further action.

An FAW statement read:

‘Retrospective action can only be taken where an incident has not been seen by the match officials.’

‘If the match officials have seen an incident such as the coming together of two players in a challenge then it is not possible to intervene retrospectively.’

‘Fifa’s clear stance is that incidents seen at the time should not be ‘re-refereed’ – even where it is perceived by others that match officials have made an incorrect judgement of an incident.’

‘As the result of relevant consultations the Football Association of Wales has decided not to take any further action against Jay Bothroyd.’

The decision means that Bothroyd is available to fadce Norwich City this weekend when the Canaries visit CCS. Importantly, he is also now available for the Swansea City derby clash the following week although he could yet find himself suspended if he picks up a 5th yellow card of the season against Norwich.

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd is a leading contender for the PFA player-of-the-month award for October. An award made BY THE FANS. By voting, you could also win the chance to present Bothroyd with the award (if successful) on the CCS pitch. VOTE FOR JAY BOTHROYD NOW!
