The New Year will see Peter Whittingham mark his 10th anniversary as a Cardiff player but the former Aston Villa midfielder is still awaiting a new deal so could leave on a free transfer in the summer.

He’s played under various people during his time with Cardiff, finding himself in and our of the side at times, but his quality has always been seen by each boss with him central to what the Bluebirds have done through the good and the bad.

A testimonial will come his way soon enough but still the 32-year-old waits to see if he’ll also be offered a new contract? With Neil Warnock charged with offloading some players, and the highest earners (with Whittingham likely to fall into the ‘highest earners’ category) as his deal is running out at the end of the season he could be coming into the final throws of his Cardiff career.

New deals have been signed by Stuart O’Keefe and Anthony Pilkington to ensure they stayed at the Cardiff City Stadium but Whittingham is still waiting, which is surprising as he’s still got plenty to offer and isn’t going to be short of offers.

A new contract is warranted and will hopefully soon be talked about, if it hasn’t already behind closed doors with this loyal servants future secured.
