Cardiff City defender Tony Capaldi has been called up to the Northern Irish squad for their upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Denmark and Spain.

The left-back is a regular in Nigel Worthington’s squad but has not featured in several games due to injuries, however, the player has been ever-present in Cardiff City’s side since joining on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle over the summer.

Capaldi performed solidly at the start of the season but is coming under mounting pressure for his safe attitude and lack of support for Ledley on the wing. There have been calls to switch Kevin McNaughton to left-back and include youngster Chris Gunter on the right.
