Brian Murphy had been a free agent since leaving Portsmouth in the summer but the ‘keeper, formerly with clubs such as Manchester City, Ipswich and QPR since coming across from Ireland, has joined Cardiff.

The free agent, which had enabled the Irishman to come to the Cardiff City Stadium after the transfer window closed last Wednesday, was confirmed on a two-year contract towards the end of last week.

After completing his move to the Cardiff City Stadium he told the Official Website.

‘I’m delighted to be here and looking forward to getting going now. I’m used to working hard and that’s what I’ll do. Hopefully we’ll push each other every day and when it comes to Saturday, you get what you deserve.’

His arrival came after Ben Amos was signed to see the 33-year-old add competition to him and Ben Wilson, who has signed a new deal with Cardiff too, following the exit of long-term Bluebirds ‘keeper David Marshall who left for Hull.

Marshall is a tough act to follow isn’t he and as much as Murphy wouldn’t be seen as the first choice at Cardiff by many, Amos is likely the no.1 now, but Paul Trollope will feel he’s got more than enough cover in this area?
