Cardiff City beat the Martyr’s by 2 goals to nil on Saturday as Dave Jones split his squad.

Cardiff started with a team that always looked to strong for their non-league opposition with Chopra, Feeney, Parry, McPhail, McNaughton with Purse and Roger Johnson looking a formidable centre-back pairing.

Both goals came from talismanic striker Michael Chopra in the second half and with Jason Byrne having replaced Feeney. It was Byrne who set up the first by flicking on a McPhail pass.

The second came soon after and was an excellent finish from the diminutive striker.

It was not a great performance from Cardiff but Chopra, youngster Aaron Ramsey and a visibly more confident Stephen McPhail stood out.

The Cardiff defence were not stretched too far although Forde made one excellent flying save to deny Merthyr.
