Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has hinted at changes to his Bluebirds line-up tonight as he looks to get the promotion chase back on target and end the slow, long-ball build-up that has crept in over the last two games.

There aren`t too many options available to Dave Jones with a number of injuries limiting the players available. However, a number of fringe squad members are now available after injury or being dropped and could be brought in by Jones.

A recent poll of this Vital Cardiff City website invited readers opinions of the 5 likely candidates available to DJ to spice things up in the Bluebirds side:

Peter Whittingham (10%)
Stephen McPhail (36%)
Eddie Johnson (15%)
Riccy Scimeca (12%)
Tony Capaldi (27%)

Forgotten man Stephen McPhail was the fans clear choice to return to the side and hopefully take a grip in midfield providing the guile and passing qualities we seem to be missing. The Irishman has had a tough time of late, after being sent off against Swansea City – he lost his place in the side. Prior to that he had been in poor form and was targeted by the Ninian Park crowd. McPhail is only just recovering from a bruised pancreas so a place amongst the substitutes appears more likely.

Tony Capaldi provided the only real challenge to McPhail in this poll. However the Northern Irishman is short on match fitness and is primarily a left-back – a position Mark Kennedy has made his own. Kennedy excelled against QPR and despite a less impressive display at Southampton – looks certain to keep his place. In theory, one or the other of Capaldi or Kennedy could be used in a midfield role but this option looks unlikely to by employed by Dave Jones.

The most likely change is the inclusion of Eddie Johnson, last chance saloon for the American – that choice was not as popular with fans but while he hasn`t exactly impressed as a Cardiff City player – he would fit the bill as a forward capable of winning balls in the air.
