Cardiff City will surely turn to experienced right-back Kevin McNaughton after versatile defender Matthew Connolly picked up a fifth booking and automatic suspension against Leicester City.

McNaughton had been dropped to allow the inclusion of Connolly, once Mackay opted to revert to his favoured centre-back pairing of Turner/Hudson. With Hudson suspended in the last home match, McNaughton was restored to the starting XI – but did not have the best of games and was swiftly returned to bench duty as Hudson became available.

Connolly has looked assured in the role, but McNaughton remains the only specialist right-back in the Cardiff City squad. He was unlucky to be dropped in the first place, probably the first time he has not been selected when fit during his CCFC career. However, doubts over his distribution remain and ‘Super Kev’s’ form has dipped. It cant be easy to come back in knowing you wont feature in the next game – but hopefully he can come in and do a job today.
