Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay is keen on securing a permanent move for Norwich City’s Simon Lappin, after the versatile left-footer returned following a loan spell with the Bluebirds. Lappin played little during the loan spell, deputising for Andrew Taylor but being sent off in his first game!

Lappin is primarily a midfielder, but filled in ably at left-back. It is surely for that position that Malky sees Lappin as an option with Conway, Kim, Noone and potentially Bellamy providing fierce competition for the left-midfield role.

Many felt that full-back cover was needed, with Connoly and Taylor the current emcumbents of those roles. Kevin McNaughton offers versatility from the bench and is comfortable on either flank but with Connolly also required to cover any injuries or suspensions at centre-half – we are light at the back.
