Local Boy Ledley ‘Loving’ Cardiff City Captaincy

Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley was ecstatic to be handed the captain’s armband and asked to lead the side out against Preston on Saturday. The local boy from Fairwater has supported the club since he was tiny, played for us since the age of 9 and since breaking a finger has enjoyed a stunning goal against rivals Swansea City and been asked to captain his beloved Bluebirds for the first time.

Ledley’s chance at captaincy comes courtesy of club captain Darren Purse being out of favour and regular stand-in Stephen McPhail sitting out a 2 match ban for a sending off.

Roger Johnson, Gavin Rae and Mark Kennedy were other contenders to take the armband but despite his quiet demeanor – Ledley got the shout and was delighted. He told the SW Echo:

“I know that when Darren Purse or Steve McPhail get back that will be the end of that.”

“But I`d love to do it again if they`re not in the side. It`s a great honour but when the game starts all you think about is getting three points.”

Ledley will lead the team out again tonight as we visit Burnley and with the Welsh youngster widely tipped for a move to the Premiership in January – this could be the last time.
