Last Gasp Watford Thwart Cardiff


Cardiff City were denied right at the death by a last gasp equaliser despite playing really well and enjoying the majority of the game. In the end, they had to settle for a share of the spoils.


Cardiff took the lead after Ledley’s corner found Roger Johnson to head home after Joe Ledley’s shot was well saved by Watford keeper Richard Lee.


Big defender Jay DeMerit equalised shortly after half time but Cardiff continued to look strong with Paul Pary always a threat and Steve McPhail instrumental in midfield.


Cardiff City regained their lead courtesy of a Peter Whittingham beauty. His left footed strike from outside the area was another sublime goal from City and the former Aston Villa winger.


City continued to play brightly with some promising counter attacking moves and swift passing.


Nigerian giant Dan Shittu came on to play up-front and headed a great chance into Schmeichel’s arms with his first touch.


Schmeichel pushed a McAnuff strike over after a period of heavy Watford pressure as we struggled to clear our lines.


Into injury time and Watford continued to pepper the Cardiff box with long balls and Kasper Schmeichel made an absolutely phenomenal save but former Cardiff City winger Jobi McAnuff got the crucial equaliser after injury time had elapsed.



A crushing blow for Cardiff when they had played so well, and whilst a draw is a good result – its a bitterly disappointing and cruel blow at the death.
