Koumas At Cardiff: Flair Or Flop ?

Cardiff City yesterday announced that Welsh former loan star Jason Koumas has joined on loan for the season from Wigan Athletic. The cultured midfielder was a revelation during his last spell in South Wales and supporters will be desperately hoping he can emulate that contribution and once again offer the guile, skill and goal threat of the 2005/06 season.

However, whilst Koumas possesses real quality, he has failed to show it at previous clubs West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic – who paid a huge fee of over £5m for his signature. In the previous spell, Koumas was 26 and in his prime. Now at the age of 30, Koumas has played just a handful of games in 3 seasons at Wigan including just 5 league starts last year where he never once played the full 90 minutes.

It is therefore clear that Koumas will not be in peak physical condition, and severely lacking in match sharpness. Alex Armstrong and the other CCFC coaches will have to work hard with Jason, and Koumas himself will also have to be committed and show the right attitude.

There are those who are delighted we have re-captured Koumas, especially given our money worries and Koumas` high wages (some of which are paid by Wigan). However, others are concerned his best years are behind him and he will struggle to make an impact.

What are your thoughts? Can Koumas pick up where he left off? Or has he missed his chance and is destined to flop? A poll is now open on the bottom right of your screen where fans can leave their opinions on the Koumas signing.
