‘King Kav’ Nets Opener at Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City’s first match at the new stadium went well and the 5000 spectators were shown the new facilities with a modern feel and spacious walkways – certainly an improvement on Ninian Park.

he first game saw two ‘legends’ teams take the field including a host of familiar names – the star of the show was undoubtedly former fans favourite Graham Kavanagh whose display suggests he would still be an asset to the Bluebirds today.

t was fitting that Kav, who has previously mentioned a desire to coach/manage the Bluebirds in the future, scored the first ever goal at the new stadium – it was a sazzling 60 yard run and neat finish from the edge of the area – Kav’s side ended up winning 3-1.

ther notable participants included Andy Legg, Leo Fortune-West, Carl Dale and Json Perry while club director Steve Borley made a welcome cameo as a goalkeeper.

n all, it was a good day and left the vast majority impressed. The turnstyles caused few problems, but a defecit of programmes and some astronomical bar prices took a little shine off the day. At just a fifth capacity, the atmosphere was still OK and it should be a fantastic venue for the forthcoming season – especially for the sell-out games.
