Irish goalkeeper David Forde has completed his move from Derry City to Cardiff City and is looking forward to the new challenge after admitting to having ‘unfinished business` in the English Leagues following an unsuccessful period with West Ham.

Forde will initially be reserve to Neil Alexander, the Scottish International an ever-present for City this season and playing at the top of his game. Alexander has been highly impressive and consistent over the latter half of last season and so far this term. However, the stopper is out of contract in the summer and talks over a new contract stalled with Alexander rejecting the terms of Dave Jones` offer in a move described by Jones as a ‘gamble`.

Cardiff may therefore be forced into offloading Alexander during the current transfer window to avoid him leaving for nothing in the summer with Coventry City showing strong interest.

Forde becomes City`s first signing of the transfer window and of 2007 and Forder is relishing the opportunity to prove himself:

‘Dave Jones wants me to challenge Neil Alexander for the number one spot and it is certainly something I think I can do.’ He told BBC Sport.
‘Exciting things are happening at Cardiff – they are near the top in the Championship and they’ve got news of a new 30,000 stadium. ‘

‘It’s a club going in all the right directions, it’s a great city and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.’
