Who’s this new signing Cardiff City seem to have made…?

Steve Thompson has enjoyed a new lease of life since regaining his place in the Cardiff side after a freak holiday accident scuppered a summer move to Preston North End.

Thompson was transfer-listed after last season after failing to score enough goals and was criticised as such by his manager.

This season however, Thompson started behing MacLean, Feeney, Fowler and Hasselabink in the striking order but fought his way to the front and is surely City’s most effective striker this season.

Last night’s 25 yard beauty was his 3rd goal in 4 games, a great return for any striker and thats half his goal tally for the whole of last season! He’s now up to 4 this season and has had relatively few chances until Robbie Fowler’s injury.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones had this to say of his matchwinner:

I forgot he was on the transfer list to be honest, if he keeps getting goals like that it’ll be best to keep him on it!’

‘Nothing is personal in football. Thommo has accepted where we are and I have and it’s up to him to keep going.’

‘He is on fire at the minute and when you’re on fire as a striker everything you seem to hit seems to go in.’

Big, strong and with a good touch – Thommo is impressing. Surely other clubs have noticed his form, and his transfer status. If a bid comes in – would we sell our most effective striker with others like Feeney and Byrne still on the payroll ?

All that was wrong last season was a lack of goals – he scored a close range header, and in the next game a 25 yard curler. Here’s hoping Thommo can keep us his great form and continue scoring goals for the club.

Incidentally, the three goals have all come in December – THOMMO FOR PLAYER OF THE MONTH !!!
