Cardiff City produced an efficient and effervescent team performance to record a 3-0 win over Portsmouth on Saturday with captain Craig Bellamy again running himself into the ground with another inspirational showing.

Bellamy’s work-rate was simply outstanding once again, and he provided crosses of excelletn quality for Olofinajana and Whittingham’s goals as well as numerous forward forays to cause problems for Pompey.

Asked about Bellamy’s performance after the game, Jones agreed and cited the Welshman’s work-rate and quality as key factors in the win. However, he also spoke of the high expectations in South Wales and the added pressure/spotlight on Welshman Bellamy.

Jones also chose to name two other Bluebirds as produxing exceptional performances and I’m sure the vast majority of fans would agree. Kevin McNaughton and Seyi Olofinjana were those singled out by the manager for special praise.

McNaughton continued in the centre-back position and was immense yet again. Always on-hand to cover for others, he marshalled Kitson/Nugent expertly, matching both aerially and winning countless tackles and interceptions on the ground. One late sliding block typified his determination and his form all season has been superb.

Seyi Olofinjana took his goal well, rising high at the far post and doing well to control his header downwards. Aside from that, he was typically strong, dominant and bossed the midfield throughout. The experienced Liam Lawrence was given little chance to influence proceedings despite being regularly involved. Seyi produced numerous clocks, tackles and interventions combining his towering physique with a deft touch and creative input.

The majority of our players are in good form at the moment and we have gatehred some valuable momentum as the season draws to a close. Just four more winning performances would gain promotion for Cardiff City – not an ease task, but certainly manageable with performances like Saturday’s.
