Cardiff City fan Joe Ledley is now officially an ex-player after the midfielder finally signed a 4 year deal at Celtic. There was strong interest from the Premiership, with Stoke City, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers all making a move for him but Ledley will play in the SPL and Champions League next season.
Unfortunately, the move to a club outside the FA system means Cardiff City are not entitle to compensation for training Ledley from the age of 9. We would have been looking at a 6-figure sum if Stoke had won the race, now we get zero. There is a slim chance we can claim compo, and the club are looking into those options – but realistically we know we’ll get nothing.
It will be a big blow to lose a player of Ledley’s energy and ability. There are those who say Ledley has not been in top form for some time – but his contribution to the team was huge and we will miss him.
Best of luck Joe, thousands of Cardiff City fans will maintain an interest in your career.
