Cardiff City’s game against Colchester United turned on one second half moment when Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink connected with bouncing ball and his high foot caught U’s defender Dean Gurken. Jimmy had to go to it, his foot was high but there was no intent. Nevertheless, the home crowd understandably called for a straight red and the referee agreed to the obvious fury of Dave Jones.

At that point, Cardiff were a goal up coutesy of a lovely Paul Parry strike after 11 minutes.

However, Colchester caused more problems as the game wore on with Clive Platt and Lisbie having particular joy in the air. The Championship’s bottom side equalised in the 71st minute when a corner wasn’t cleared and Johnnie Jackson was free to volley home from just inside the area – a very good goal.

Cardiff struggled to cope with the U’s possession and general liveliness as the home side grew in confidence. Despite some intense late pressure, Cardiff were able to hold on for a draw.

Two good goals, Parry’s strike was a neat turn and finish. Jackson’s goal was lovely. Fair result, could have sneaked it near the end.
