Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has confirmed the speculation linking Joe Mason with a permanent transfer this window, saying both clubs are in advanced talks over a deal.
With it being reported that, despite claims he wasn’t for sale only last week, a £3million fee had been effectively agreed between Cardiff and the Midlands side, Jackett has been speaking to the press and he’s pretty confident a deal will soon be done.
Wales Online have him quoted as saying.
‘Are we in advanced talks? Yes we are. But we wouldn`t have necessarily announced anything until he`s signed because it still has some way to go. But yes there are discussions going on at the moment and we do hope to be able to close a deal.’
Sounds like the leak to the press wasn’t from their side then.
‘We`ve looked at him for a while. He had a good loan spell at Bolton and he`s a natural number 10, he plays best just off a striker I think. Getting the right partnership in that area is a key one for us. And since Benik Afobe and Nouha Dicko have gone out of it for different reasons, it`s something we`re looking to obviously try to improve.’
So far this year, Mason has taken in 24 games with a return of six goals, so whilst not prolific he has brought other things to the pitch this season, and yes signing for £250,000 and selling for £3million is a good financial piece of business but if Cardiff get rid of all the strikers they hope to this window we might end up with Simon Moore leading the line.
