Cardiff City’s Irish midfielder Stephen McPhail is struggling with a knee injury which saw him struggle in the second half at Anfield against Liverpool FC.

The midfielder has struggled for form of late and has faced criticism from fans for his lack of creativity and sideways passing. However, Dave Jones has stuck with his man and picked him whenever available. Cardiff’s only recent win came against Burnley when McPhail was ill and Joe Ledley switched to central midfield with outstanding results as the Welshman turned in a quality display.

However, McPhail was recalled and Ledley switched out wide. Now though, Dave Jones may be forced to alter his team after McPhail’s injury although the player himself is hoping to be fit.

McPhail told the Western Mail:

‘I struggled second half, to be fair, with my knee and I jarred it right near the end.’

‘I did not feel to stable on it during the second half and I really should have come off, but I just did not want to.’

‘It has swelled up a bit, but hopefully there is not too much damage.’

‘I will just have to see how it goes over the next few days. Hopefully it will be all right for Crystal Palace.’

McPhail would almost certainly have missed the weekend game against Blackpool, but the trip to the Seasiders was postponed giving the midfielder more time to recover for when Crystal Palace visit us in midweek.
