Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has turned his attention to 6ft 4in striker Jon Parkin, reports BBC Sport.

Cardiff recently missed out on New Zealand striker Chris Killen who opted to join Celtic and Parkin is seen as a suitable alternative.

Parkin currently plays for Hull City, who battled relegation last season – however Parkin spent a 2 month period with promotion chasing Stoke City scoring 3 goals in his 6 appearances for the Potters.

BBC Sport understands Cardiff to be preparing a £500k bid but believe that Hull City want double that after recalling the striker to their first team for the relegation battle.

At 25, Parkin is fairly young and has played mostly at the lower levels, including spells at Macclefield and York City. He is a powerful striker who will cause problems for defences and bagged a goal against Middlesborough in the FA Cup this season.

If Cardiff do succeed in signing Parkin, they face competition from Stoke, then the money will be re-directed from strnegthening another area as Killen was available for nothing.

Sounds a lot for an unproven striker, Alan Lee left for 100k

Sounds like yet another back-up striker – we need a PROVEN player no more Feeney’s / Thompson/ Campbell etc etc
