Hull City Fan View On Cardiff Recruit Olofinjana

Cardiff City fans were delighted this week by the loan capture of giant Nigerian midfielder Seyi Olofinjana. We have been limited in our options for a strong, battler in the centre of the park but doubts remain as to exactly what Olofinjana would bring to the Bluebirds squad. We spoke to Matt Wilson over at Vital Hull for his thoughts:


What’s his best position? Can he cover other positions?

Seyi is a central midfielder, with defensive and attacking atributes to his game. Predominantly a holding player, he has a good touch for a big man and can break up the play. He occassionally strides forward but does not always appear comfortable when heading into the opposition area.


What sort of player is he? (power, pace, skilful, creative, tackler etc)

He is a strong player with a good touch; I am sure he can help control the midfield better in the Championship than he could in the EPL. He isn’t blessed with great place or is that creative, much more of a holding and play it simple player.


Any particular strengths/ weaknesses?

A player that will keep it simple and retain posession. He won’t score many goals so you will need those to come from other areas in the side.


Could he have done a job for you?

I think he could as we will lack defensive cover in the absence of Ian Ashbee. However, we are blessed with a lot of midfield options and as our finances dictate, we must move on those who won’t be playing. £28,000 to sit on the bench each week is just too much to stomach.


Will he be a good player in the Championship?

I think he will do well and should be more suited to the npower Championsip.


Is Cardiff a good move for him?

Just after he moved, he spoke of his delight with linking back up with Dave Jones following his Wolves days. This may get the best out of the midfielder and I think Cardiff will be a good move for him; I do expect him back at the KC next season however unless Cardiff stump up considerable cash to allow us to pay off the remainder of City’s debt to Stoke, believed to be circa £2 million.
