Cardiff City owed a great deal to experienced forward Heidar Helguson after Friday’s emphatic win over Blackburn Rovers with the Icelandic frontman contributing a great deal for the Bluebirds cause and chipping in with an excellent three assists.

Helguson’s contribution is sometimes questioned but he manages to make an impression every game and does an incredible amount of work -often selflessly. He is scoring goals too but despite not getting his name on the scoresheet this weekend – a hat-trick of assists is a brilliant effort.

Helguson was not involved in the opening goal, Hudson heading home from Noone’s cross but from then on, he played an intricate one-two with Bellamy, flicked on to Joe Mason and squared to Kim Bo Kyung as City ran out 4-1 winners.

It wasn’t Helguson who made the headlines, but the former QPR man was absolutely crucial to the three points and has become a hugely influential player for the Bluebirds – truly one of the best signings from Malky Mackay and hopefully the form will continue.
