Hammam rules out Cardiff return

Sam Hammam has moved to quash rumours of a sensational return to Cardiff City amid fears of a collapse in the proposed takeover deals. The club have strenuously denied any doubts over the deal and insist the talks are on course while Hammam has now confirmed that he has no intention of returning to the club he brought to the second tier of British football.

‘I have made a decision, I moved on from Cardiff City a while back and what happens to the club is now in the hands of those charged with its day-to-day operations.’ Hammam told the Western Mail.
‘What happens next lies in the hands of the chairman Peter Ridsdale and the board of directors. There are other people in charge now and it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this point in time.”
‘Those people are the ones who will control the future of the club, not myself.’
Hammam stopped short of categorically ruling out a return, he made it clear he had no intentions of doing so. The takeover deal effectively cuts Hammam`s controlling share from 82% to 9% and he would no longer be a director, he has however been offered the position of ‘Honourary Life President`. The deal would also mean that Ned Hammam, brother of Sam, would also leave the board of directors but fans` favourite Steve Borley would remain.

The deal is necessary to secure the future of Cardiff City Football Club and ensure that the new stadium project is financially viable. Cardiff Council and other parties involved with the project were reluctant to deal with Hammam but the takeover should keep all parties happy, including manager Dave Jones who will receive a substantial transfer kitty for the January transfer window.
