Cardiff City welcomed French striker Rudy Gestede back to training this week and Malky Mackay hopes he can name the promising frontman in his squad when the Bluebirds travel to face Reading this weekend.

Gestede had been missing for the past couple of weeks with a hamstring injury sustained early in the 4-3 away defeat at Peterborough. He pulled up only 10 minutes in and was obviously suffering from a hamstring worry, his second this season after earlier missing games with a similar problem.

Gestede has impressed since joining the Bluebirds following a successful trial in the summer. The former Metz player made an emphatic start, coming off the bench to provide a memorable debut goal for Kenny Miller and an opening weekend win at West Ham. Since then he has proved a real handful in the air and shown good determination and impact on the pitch, scoring two goals at CCS.

Gestede`s availability would have been useful when Kenny Miller suffered the nasty cut to his head but Joe Mason took his chance well and deserving his place in the squad. Gestede may not be risked this weekend, especially sicne he has now suffered two hamstring pulls in quick succession. However, with he and Mason showing excellent promise, Robert Earnshaw may find himself out of the matchday 16 and struggling for gametime.
