A deal to keep ex-Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler at Cardiff City looks ever more likely withboth club and player keen to thrash something out.

Fowler disappointed in his first season at Ninian Park, no sooner had he gained fitness then he suffered a hip injury and needed two operations and intensive rehabilitaion before missing most of the campaign.

Peter Ridsdale defended his and Dave Jones’ gamble but are keeping faith with the veteran striker though he did concede that any new deal would be based on appearances on ‘pay-as-you-play’ contract.

Fowler’s agent told the SW Echo:

‘Peter Ridsdale wants Robbie to stay, Dave Jones wants Robbie to stay and Robbie wants Robbie to stay, so there you have it,”

“As for pay as you play, well, he already has remuneration for appearances in his current contract so that need not be a problem.”

No formal offer has yet been made, but it does now look like Fowler will remain a Bluebird. He still has plenty to prove in South Wales, but will also feel some loyalty towards the club who have stuck by him through this season’s injury problems.
