Cardiff City midfielder Willo Flood, currently on loan at Dundee United, was desperately unlucky to be on the losing side after The Tangerines succumbed to SPL giants Glasgow Rangers in the CIS Insurance Cup final.

Flood produced an outstanding performance as his Dundee United side took the lead twice, only for former Cardiff target Kris Boyd to equalise on both occasions. Rangers eventually triumphed after a penalty shoot-out.

Cardiff have suffered from a threadbare squad at times this season, while Flood (on a season long loan at Tannadice) has been a revelation in Dundee and impressed in the league and cup alike.

Flood was widely acclaimed to be man of the match after his inspired performance but remained disappointed with the outcome. Flood said after the game:

‘I would rather have had a stinker and the team went on to win the cup, so it is no consolation whatsoever.’

‘All of the boys were terrific and I don’t think you could find a standout performance in the team.’

Flood surely has a part to play for Cardiff City after a good season in the SPL. Midfield has not been the biggest problem for Cardiff but Flood may be the preferred choice on the right next season with Trevor Sinclair likely to be less involved.
