Feeney Woe To Scupper Swans Move?

Warren Feeney, the Cardiff City player currently on loan on Swansea picked up a nasty injury on Saturday which could have serious repurcusions for his future.


The Northern Ireland International has struggled as a Bluebird and, through no lack of effort, simply cannot find a clear role in the team. Add to that an inability to score and it should be Feeney, not Steve Thompson, stuck on the transfer list.


Our friends down the M4 in Swansea however have seen a different Warren Feeney. Recalled to the side on Saturday, Feeney struck the first goal of a 3-0 win to keep the Swans in top spot.


Feeney has helped propell the Jacks to the top of league 1, Saturday’s headed goal his 5 league goal of the season (only top scorer Jason Scotland has more).



Swansea City fans were not 100% convinced by Feeney, but his exemplary attitude and determination helped win round his manager and Roberto Martinez previously underlined his desire to take Feeney permanently to the Liberty Stadium.



This latest injury is a big blow to Feeney, and with an expected 3 month lay-off, could scupper a move West. Thats disappointing for Swansea, Cardiff and the player who has clearly found a more suitable home.


That 3 months takes us to March, after the transfer window and Swansea may need another striker to held propel their promotion campaign. However, Martinez remains hopeful of a deal telling the Evening Post:



‘Nothing has changed in my mind. The plan was to do a deal with Cardiff but the big issue is his situation at Cardiff.’

‘The attitude and way that he has conducted himself since the day he signed here means that he deserves another opportunity with us. That opportunity can’t be destroyed by this injury.’




Bad luck, and especially bad timing for Warren. There is no fracture and hopefully his recovery will be quick but it seemed we were in a win win situation last week. Either we sold a player, creating funds for a potential new signing, or, we got back a player with renewed confidence and a scoring touch.


Whether Swansea City are prepared to gamble on signing an injured player in the transfer window, or will try to extend the loan, remains to be seen. I’m sure Martinez will feel his man should be available on a free transfer now!
