Feeney Set To Stay With Cardiff City

Cardiff City striker Warren Feeney, who has been on loan at Coca-Cola League One side Swansea City, looks set to remain a Bluebird for the forseeable future.


Feeney impressed somewhat at Swansea, despite struggling with the Bluebirds. Swans boss Roberto Martinez hoped to sign Feeney permanently and the two clubs even agreed a fee.


However an untimely ankle injury brought a premature end to his stay in South West Wales, and Feeney returned to Cardiff for treatment.


Martinez agreed to re-evaluate the situation in January but now appears to have turned to other targets to boost the Jacks’ promotion chase. Martinez told the Swansea City official site:



‘It seems as though it’s going to be very, very difficult to agree something over Warren.’


Apart from fitness, wages are thought to be a stumbling block and with 2 years left on his contract, and a fee of £100k paid out by Cardiff last season, the club are uunwilling to see him leave for nothing.


However, Martinez maintains an interest in the player and may return with a bid at a later date:


‘We will be looking at the next transfer window in the summer for that one, so we’ll see what develops.’




It’s a blow to Cardiff, and the player. He seems far more at home further West, and has made little impact with City. With Jason Byrne now gone, a move for Feeney would have allowed a more proven striker to come in and aid Cardiff in their own play-off push.



Feeney will be behind Fowler, Hasslebaink, Thompson, Parry, MacLean and possibly even youngster Matt Green when he returns. That is assuming no other striker leaves although Thompson is transfer listed and attracting interest, while a loan striker remains a possibility.
