FAW ‘Dangling Carrot’ To Cardiff

Cardiff City have been dangled another carrot regarding the FAW Premier Cup after Wrexham bowed out to League of Wales side Llanelli last night.

The Dragons let slip a 2-0 lead, to eventually lose 4-2 to the Welsh Premier side. It was their 7th straight defeat.

Wrexham’s exit, and the fact that Newport County have already knocked out Swansea City, means that Cardiff are the only on of the ‘big three’ league teams left in the competition.

City’s quarter-final against Welshpool was postponed on Tuesday, and will be played next week instead. The Bluebirds were due to field a weakened side, involving youngsters and one or two senior pros.

However, while they pay little regard to the competition, any reasonably strong Cardiff side would be strong favourites to win the competition and take the £150k prize money available to the Champions.

Thats not a bad sum, and only Newport County realistically stand in the way if Cardiff decide to go for it. They should at least take the competition more seriously and field a team strong enough for the win in each case.
