Ex-Cardiff Man Purse Becomes an Owl

Cardiff City released club captain Darren Purse following the end of the season and the experienced central defender has already been snapped up on a free transfer by one of our Championship rivals.

Sheffield Wednesday played their part in our poor season end and beat us on the last day. The Owls have a talented squad and if they sign a few good players may challenge for a play-off spot next year.

Darren Purse has not been a big player for us over the last two years. While 100% committed and determined, he lacked pace, and often failed to get good distance on his headers. A useful squad player for City, he was kept out by Johnson, Loovens and Gyepes so never had a prolonged run in the first team.

I’m sure all Cardiff City fans will wish Darren Purse well as he begins life at his new club. Whether he can remain an important player in the Championship remains to be seen but Pursey was a good servant to the club and his contribution won’t be forgotten.

Darren Purse joins that very small group of ex-Bluebirds whose enormous contribution to our club means that they will always be welcomed back by genuine City fans .. like Graham Kavanagh, Darren will always do the Ayatollah when asked .. he has earned and deserves our very best wishes and respect ..
